If you want to direct a domain that you have to some other domain address or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's forwarded to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the website that you've created, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this kind of a record set up for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

You can easily set up CNAME records if you have a shared hosting plan from our company. We're going to provide you with an easy-to-use Control Panel that enables you to see all DNS records for the domains and subdomains that are hosted inside the account. Creating a CNAME record requires a number of simple steps - pick the domain/subdomain, choose CNAME as the type, enter the hostname you are pointing to, then simply click the Save button. The process is as easy as that and the new record will be active almost instantly. This way, you are going to have more control over your domain names and subdomains and over the content they open, you'll be able to create a private URL for company emails, and much more. If you feel uncertain about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, we have a short video tutorial in which you can see the whole process first-hand. If you choose to change or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll take you literally only a mouse click to get it done.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a challenging task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each semi-dedicated hosting plan we offer, is quite simple to use. If you wish to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will need to do will be to select the domain name or subdomain that you need, choose the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then input the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is quite easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be completely active and within a few hours it is going to propagate all over the world. If you aren't sure what you should do, we have prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial concerning how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located in that same section of Hepsia. Naturally, you can also get in touch with us for assistance whenever you want.
