When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular service provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically as soon as the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the emails for that particular domain address. The website and the e-mail hosting are typically considered to be one thing, when they are actually two different services. Having different records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you would like. For instance, some new company could have superb uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain to the former and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you want to open a site or send an e-mail - in any case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account through our company and you wish to point either your site or your emails to a different service provider, it'll take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you change or create will not take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are managed through our in-house built Hepsia CP, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you won't encounter any problems if you decide to switch your site or e-mails to an alternative service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you can also create additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
